AZGS Now Hiring Administrative Services Officer (Chief Financial and Administrative Officer)

The Arizona Geological Survey is looking for an individual to serve as our Chief Financial and Administrative Officer. AZGS comprises about 35 employees with an annual budget of $3 million and is located at 416 W. Congress, Tucson, Arizona.

Job Description. This individual will oversee all fiscal activities including state and federal accounting; procurement; budget preparation and tracking; approval of internal financial systems and processes; assist in preparing funding proposals; preparation of statistical, financial and other reports; oversee the daily, monthly and end-of-fiscal year reconciling of funds; guidance and assistance to agency and project managers; preparation and negotiation of indirect rate agreements; human resource management including hiring, firing, labor distribution, benefits and other employee maintenance as well as payroll approval; risk management; motor pool management; and overseeing any audits the agency may face.

Training. Applicants should possess formal education, training, and experience in financial management, accounting, and budgeting (with capabilities in public sector or non-profit sector). Understanding of State Government laws, rules, and operations related to accounting, budgeting, financial management, strategic planning, and human resources. Preference given to someone with advanced knowledge of AFIS, including data entry as well as data inquiry, advanced knowledge of HRIS, including all of the responsibilities of the payroll initiator, HR initiator, benefits initiator, tax initiator and labor distribution specialist; Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; User-level knowledge of Microsoft Access; Knowledge of how to read and use various DAFR reports.

This position requires an individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills with a penchant for effective and timely problem-solving.

[AZGS Announcement]: AZGS Opens Phoenix Office

The Arizona Geological Survey has opened its first ever branch office in Phoenix, to better address the needs of the state's largest metropolitan area. The office will initially focus on natural hazards, especially earth fissures, and groundwater resources.
Mimi Diaz is heading up the Phoenix office which is expected to grow to a full service operation in the next few years. Mimi previously worked with the Arizona Division of Emergency Management in hazards mitigation and was a geology instructor at Arizona State University. She can be reached at mimi.diaz@azgs.az.gov.
The office is housed with the Arizona Dept. of Mines and Mineral Resources at 1502 W. Washington Ave, in the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum. Contact Info
